Malibu
Wins North American Car of the Year

Lutz
with the 2008 North American Car of the Year, the Chevy Malibu.

Moments
ago, the North American Car & Truck of the Year were announced
at the North American International Auto Show here in Detroit.
Im proud and pleased to tell you that the Chevy Malibu
just won Car of the Year.
46
independent expert jurors - men and women who review automobiles
for a living - judged the Malibu to be the best car available
in North America. Thats honor enough, but then you have
to remember that GM swept the awards last year with the Saturn
Aura and Chevy Silverado. Weve now won three of the past
four awards handed out by this jury. I cant tell you how
gratifying it is to get this kind of validation from the experts
its proof that our efforts to bring the best cars
and trucks on the planet to market are paying off.
We
told you we were going to make the new Malibu the best mid-size
sedan on the market one that wouldnt just be as
good as the competition, but would be better than the
competition. Well, weve done it; critics and consumers
have been saying so since the Malibu was launched in the fall,
and now the NACTOY jury has agreed.

AVALANCHE
IS BIG ON LOOKS BUT NOT ON THE WALLET
Durham Wheels - January 5, 2007 - By Mike Johnston
There
really is only one word to describe the 2007 GM Avalanche -
big. But while using that word every time someone asked me about
Chevrolet's four-door truck, I also threw in stylish, fun to
drive, a head-turner and surprisingly, not the gas guzzler I
thought it was going to be. The Avalanche has been redesigned
for 2007 including a bolder-looking grille, more engine choices,
a stronger frame and a number of new options including power-operated
running boards that automatically extend from the body of the
vehicle when the doors are opened. That would definitely be
one option I would consider. Despite its size, GM's SUV/truck
is easy to drive once you have been behind the wheel for a bit
and while parking may intimidate some, the ultrasonic parking
assist is a big help when pulling in to those tight spots at
any local shopping centre. But it is on the highway where the
Avalanche proves itself as a very safe vehicle. This truck is
very solid and not once did I feel nervous when being passed
by an 18-wheeler. Highway driving was also the biggest surprise
when it came to the pocket book. Thanks to the fuel management
system, half the vehicle's cylinders shut down under light,
or no-load conditions, to save fuel. This was a big selling
point to the environmentalists in the office who looked at the
Avalanche as a gas-guzzling behemoth. Another safety feature
I really liked was the Stabilitrak system, designed to help
drivers retain control of their vehicles during high-speed maneuvers
or on slippery roads. The Avalanche is the first full-size pickup
truck in the industry standard with StabiliTrak. With a large
family of five and weekly stops to hockey arenas and local gyms
for basketball, the Avalanche is a great vehicle to get around
in.

GM
has lots of ethanol powered vehicles to choose from next year.
The
Canadian Renewable Fuels Association today unveiled a comprehensive
plan to implement the federal government's Renewable Fuels
Strategy, which includes specific recommendations to support
and expand the availability of E85 fuel (a fuel containing
85 per cent Ethanol and 15 per cent gasoline).
"We are particularly pleased that one of the key policy
recommendations of the CRFA's report identifies the need
to improve Canadian market access for E85 fuel," said
David Paterson, vice president of corporate and environmental
affairs. "We have millions of E85 FlexFuel vehicles
on the road today and when vehicles like our FlexFuel Chevrolet
Impala run on E85, they have equal or better greenhouse
gas performance than the smallest hybrids." GM, a global
leader in providing Ethanol FlexFuel vehicles, has sold
more than two million E85 FlexFuel vehicles in North America,
which run seamlessly on E85 fuel, regular gasoline or any
combination of the two, giving consumers' the ultimate in
fueling flexibility. GM offers the Ethanol FlexFuel technology
on a broad variety of vehicles at no additional charge to
customers. E85 FlexFuel technology is available on fullsize
pick ups (GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado), full-size
utilities (GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet
Suburban, and Chevrolet Avalanche) and the 2006 Chevrolet
Impala that received the CAA Pyramid Award for Environmental
Initiatives. For the 2007 model year, the Chevrolet Monte
Carlo, Pontiac Montana SV6, Buick Terrazza, Saturn Relay,
Chevrolet Uplander, GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express will
also be available with E85 capability. GM provided a number
of its new 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukons, which have
E85 technology as standard equipment, to the Premier's Conference
in Newfoundland on July 25 through 29. As a further illustration
of the greenhouse gas reduction potential of this technology,
these vehicles with seven passenger seating, operating on
cellulosic ethanol fuel, have net C02 emissions that are
20 per cent lower than those of the most popular small hybrid
on the road today.
